The registration of the thesis will be made at the chair by the secretariat via Campus Online. After agreement with your supervisor regarding the topic and start of the processing period, please contact the secretariat for registration.

SOEP-Data

Students, who will write their thesis at the Chair of Labour Economics, can apply for access to the data of the Socioeconomic Panel (SOEP) of the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW). This socio-economic microdata is mainly useful for topics in applied (labour) economics.

In order to receive access to the SOEP data, a student has to register his or her thesis at the Chair of Labour Economics first. Upon successful registration please sign the following document twice (including the data protection statement on page two) and hand in two copies at the office of Sandra Hörath sandra.hoerath@uni-bayreuth.de (RW II Room: 1.74).

The documents are subsequently sent to the DIW for final inspection, which can take up to two weeks. Please plan your thesis accordingly.

For more details on getting permission and access to the data in the PC lab, consult this short guide HERE. It explains the structure and characteristics of the SOEP, and gives tips on how to handle the data in STATA (also see the exemplary do-file HERE).
